When we first got our lovely dog Sandy, I was all enthusiastic to start a blog about her, chronicling her activities and all the walks we were going to do.  I set up a blog page on WordPress and put a photo of her on there and then, came to a complete stop.  Like not even a single word was written.  Life got in the way.  Work was busy, home life was busy, you know how it is.  All those less important things slowly move down your priority list until they are so far down the list that they are forgotten about altogether.

Then came Covid-19 last year and life changed immediately, just like it did for everyone else across the globe.  No longer was I rushing around everywhere, my work life balance got better and although I was still busy with work, being able to work from home and not having to commute gave me back so much valuable time in my daily life.

Every day I was able to get up and go dog walking with my friend who lives nearby.  I was able to spend more time with my family. Having lunch together, going for coffee when the shops were open, doing some baking, the list is endless.  But then I remembered about the blog that I’d started a few years previous and not got anywhere with.  Now was my opportunity to get on and develop it and that’s just what I did and I’m still doing now.

I started from scratch, knowing nothing.  I had to learn about how to set up a blog, hosting, choosing a theme, adding plug-ins, creating a post.  It was really overwhelming to begin with, but I soon started to get the hang of it. My seedling blog was really starting to grow and turn into something beautiful.

I’m a pet blogger in case you didn’t know.  Just one of many types of bloggers out there.  The most common bloggers are lifestyle bloggers, like Shayla, who shares parenting tips, fitness goals, lifestyle hacks and random thoughts with her readers.

There are many influencer bloggers who have turned into style icons with their fashion marketing. With lots of brands wanting to work with them.  Many other bloggers have found success posting about topics that are unique just to them. Whether it is about dealing with menopause or divorce, how to follow a particular diet like keto or 5:2, how to raise a family or being a stay-at-home dad. Each has their own unique audience or readers.

Blogging really is a great way to establish an online presence and express your expertise in a subject that you love. Your little piece of space in that big world-wide-web  And, with the right digital marketing strategy, you can really scale your blog as much as you want.

Looking back, I always used to think no-one would ever find me online, but I have seen my blog grow and evolve over this time and I am so glad I did finally get the opportunity to launch my blog.
